In the world of the internet, people write product reviews of products and services.
Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
The internet has changed the way people evaluate products and services, and online reviews have become a common part of this process. Although these reviews can sometimes be problematic, I believe this development is generally positive.
Online reviews give consumers access to information they did not have before. Instead of relying only on advertising, people can read about the experiences of others who have already used a product or service. This helps buyers make more informed decisions and reduces uncertainty before spending money. These reviews also give ordinary consumers greater influence over businesses. If a company provides poor service, customers can make this experience public, which encourages businesses to respond to complaints and maintain higher standards.
However, online reviews can also reduce the reliability of the information available to consumers. Some reviews may be fake, paid, or written by competitors, while genuine customers may react emotionally and judge unfairly over a small issue. Another problem is that online reviews can unfairly damage a business's reputation. A small number of negative comments can create a highly distorted picture of a company, go viral, and discourage potential customers, even when most people have had a satisfactory experience.
So far, the discussions indicate that if online reviews are seen as entirely positive, we may ignore the damage caused by false information and unfair judgments. These downsides are fortunately examined and are being mitigated through verified-purchase systems, moderation, and the removal of fake reviews, which already address these problems to a good extent, suggesting that online reviews should generally be considered a positive development.
