It is challenging to choose which period of life is the most joyful. Some people designate teenagerhood as the happiest life period, while others think the hard days of adulthood are happier. I think that these comparisons might be false. On the one hand, many teenagers are not subjected to the same stressors as older age groups. Nothing is expected of them other than going to school and forming healthy relationships, and many of them are financially supported. This protected existence keeps them from the horrors of reality, such as mortgage payments or toxic people in workplaces. Equally important is the fact that teenagers are generally healthier and rarely experience health issues like older adults, whose lives can be interrupted by the anxiety and pains of blood tests and hospitalizations.
Others, however, view adult life as a richer source of happiness despite its vicissitudes. Although it comes with heavy responsibilities, it is the period when an individual can have the chance to design their lives the way they wish, pursue the goals they have set independently, and taste the sweet results of their efforts. For instance, becoming a homeowner requires years of hard work and enduring the stress of factors such as economic downturns that threaten job security. However, once it is achieved, the sweet victory results in lifelong satisfaction. That is why many adults find the lives of teenagers wasted or aimless because they rarely work as hard and undergo pain to achieve something worthwhile.
These discussions suggest that we should avoid making overgeneralized comparisons because they only highlight the positive aspects and ignore the negative. Some teenagers, for instance, face alienation due to peer pressure and battle depression, or adults may also make poor decisions that negatively affect their lives. As too many variables determine life satisfaction, we will experience moments of happiness and misery at various stages of life.
