Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

To solve our environmental problems, some people believe they must be prioritized first, leading to the view that biodiversity loss is the foremost ecological crisis of our time. However, others argue that there are more pressing issues. I think this matter is too complex to be reduced to such categorizations.

On the one hand, it is believed that the massive decline in biodiversity might soon become irreversible. Our ecosystem has adapted to extinctions for thousands of years, making adjustments to continue offering services such as maintaining soil, purifying water, and supplying food to all forms of flora and fauna. However, at the current substantial extinction rate, nature may lose its ability to repair the damage, threatening all life on Earth, which is why it is prioritized above other issues.

On the other hand, for some, global warming seems significantly more serious. With more heat trapped in the atmosphere, temperature and rainfall patterns are changing, upsetting the natural order of breeding and resource availability and causing climatic changes in abrupt and extreme ways. These changes can, in turn, negatively disrupt ecosystems and endanger the lives of all forms of life. Even worse, for others, might be the pollution crisis. Pollution is a human-driven problem resulting from the production and emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases, which affect water and soil, and are a significant cause of both global warming and biodiversity loss.

Overall, I believe our environmental problems interact with one another, exacerbating each other, so prioritizing them in any form may not be helpful for taking the right action to mitigate their effects. Instead, we should focus on their interactions and develop a comprehensive plan to counteract their negative impacts on each other and on our ecology.
