The chart below shows the types of music bought in the US in 2010 by age group.

The bar chart compares the sales of four music genres (in millions) among five age groups in the United States in 2010. The data suggest that Pop and Rock tended to attract younger buyers, while Jazz and Classical showed stronger appeal among older listeners, with Classical becoming the most purchased genre among the oldest group.
Jazz sales rose from about 2 among the youngest listeners to around 3 in the 32–45-year-olds, then, to varying degrees, declined with age in the older categories. Classical music showed a similar pattern in the younger and middle groups, but unlike Jazz, its highest value appeared in the oldest group, reaching about 4.4—by far the highest figure for that age group.
A different pattern emerged for Pop and Rock. Pop initially had its strongest sales among the youngest group, at about 4.7. The next three age groups purchased significantly fewer Pop records, but the oldest group again exhibited notably higher sales, around 3. Rock's sales range is narrower, with its peak values in the 23–31 and 46–57 age groups (approximately 4.1 and 3.8, respectively), while the other groups purchased slightly fewer Rock records, generally around 3.
