A leather jacket, for instance, can remain functional for years, while cheaper alternatives might lose shape quickly. More importantly, choosing expensive clothing more closely aligns with sustainable practices. Cheaper clothing contributes to the growth of the fast fashion industry, which is wasteful and environmentally harmful, as more garments made from non-biodegradable materials are discarded and accumulate in landfills.
On the other hand, having only a few expensive clothing items can be restrictive. There will be far fewer options for experimentation with different colors and styles, which is unsuitable for those seeking variety and a refreshed look. Another issue relates to affordability – not everyone can prioritize quality and might choose cheaper clothes to meet their practical needs. Parents, for instance, might not choose expensive clothes because children outgrow them quickly, or some people who require multiple uniforms or casual outfits might be unable to afford quality clothing.
From these arguments, we can conclude that, ideally, it may be preferable to purchase a few expensive garments because of their longevity and alignment with sustainability; however, in practice, this may not be feasible for all, including variety seekers and less wealthy individuals. Therefore, the claim should be rejected for failing to account for the nuances of clothing options.
