Nowadays, many mothers take care of the family and don’t go out to work. Some people believe they should be given salaries by the government. Do you agree or disagree?

Motherhood involves a great deal of valuable work that often remains invisible. As many mothers today choose to remain home to dedicate their time to their family, some people propose that they should be compensated with a salary by the government. I think this proposal will not work despite its merits.

Mothers perform valuable unpaid work. They are responsible for childcare, which is demanding on its own, but since they stay at home, they should also manage the house, children’s education, and everyone’s emotional stability. Receiving a salary would also acknowledge their contribution while providing greater financial security. Such a policy would officially recognize the hardships and responsibilities of motherhood while giving many women greater financial independence, thereby reducing economic inequality.

However, this policy might place an excessive burden on public finances. Because a large proportion of the population could become eligible, the policy might place a considerable burden on public finances, forcing governments to divert resources from other essential services. Another issue is that mothers’ efforts cannot be valued only through a salary mechanism. Different families face different financial and social challenges. While some may benefit most from direct financial support, others may need affordable childcare, tax reductions, healthcare services, or pension contributions.

These discussions show that mothers receiving a salary may feel valued, secure, and acknowledged, but the policy fails to consider the financial limits faced by governments, along with other ways to do this. Therefore, although governments should recognize and support mothers who dedicate themselves to raising families, salaries should be viewed as only one possible form of support rather than a universal solution.
