Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar.Do you agree or disagree?

Supermarket shelves are filled with products with high sugar content, which adversely affects consumers’ health. To address this problem, it is proposed that the price of such products be increased to deter sugar consumption. I think this proposition is too short-sighted to effectively solve the problem.
On the one hand, we must concede that price manipulation might reduce the number of target customers. Middle-class and low-income people comprise a large proportion of every society, and they are highly price-sensitive, meaning any change in the price of sugary products can result in customer behavior modification and a reduction in sugar use. This plan is, moreover, likely to create a bottleneck for producers. As the demand for cakes, cokes, and ice creams plummets, their ability to generate income will decline, forcing them to consider alternative, healthier sweeteners to win back the lost market share.
However, this proposal can be criticized because it only considers price as the influential factor, which is not the case. Customers inevitably adapt to changes and learn how to enjoy such products by manipulating costs. What health authorities should do, in addition to price policy, is turn their attention to the fact that many people do not fully comprehend the damage they do to their bodies by consuming, for example, a can of Coca-Cola daily. Bringing this to the public's attention might lead to an organic reduction in sugar intake. Moreover, another long-term plan is for the authorities of the educational system to include healthy eating habits as a subject matter in curricula to influence children. This type of social engineering can result in a domino effect that can echo far into the future.
These discussions suggest that price change policies to discourage sugar use might temporarily work, but for a long-lasting effect, people must become aware of why sugar overconsumption is harmful; this awareness can be planted like a seed in children's minds so that society can experience higher health rates in the future. Therefore, the health issues associated with sugary products cannot be mitigated by controlling only one factor: price.
