Not all children spend their time in the same way; some have hours of smartphone screen time each day for various reasons, which will be explained. I also believe this is a negative trend, despite the potential positive effects.
What may contribute to this development is that parents are increasingly disconnected from their children today. Smartphones provide children with a greater sense of connection through their games, videos, and songs than fatigued parents, who often lack the time to sit and talk or play games with them. Another factor might be that parents depict the world outside the home in the darkest colors. Influenced by pervasive news on social media, they may perceive their neighborhoods as filled with pedophiles, accidents, and unsuitable peers, inadvertently leading their children toward more screen time within the safe confines of their homes. More importantly, modern parenting is characterized by excessive leniency because of its rejection of traditional parenting styles, which results in a lack of discipline, causing hours to be wasted on cell phones rather than on engaging in other productive activities.
Regarding the effects, the educational content that children encounter online may enhance their cognitive abilities, an essential development during the early stages of growth. However, excessive screen time can lead to an 'alone' mentality from a young age, causing online communication to become their primary means of interaction in adulthood. This negative impact does not stop here; frequent isolation because of smartphone use can establish a sedentary lifestyle during these critical growth years, resulting in children becoming susceptible to various health issues, such as obesity, in their later stages.
These discussions suggest that parents should create a balanced environment that encourages physical and social activities, as well as disciplined screen time, to promote healthier child development. Otherwise, the adverse effects of this development will deafeningly echo in the minds and bodies of future generations.
