Overall, fossil fuels have been most prevalent, with similar projections for the future, with petrol and oil topping the list. Alternative energy sources, however, rank at the bottom with substantially less significant growth rates.
Petroleum and oil use began at 35—the highest—and has generally continued to rise, reaching about 40 today. As this trend continues, it will reach an all-time high of approximately 50 by 2030. Natural gas and coal similarly followed a rising trend, with the former beginning at 20 and the latter at just above 15; both have broadly consistently increased throughout the period, and while natural gas will level off at 25 and fall to the third position, coal is expected to reach roughly 30.
By contrast, using green energies has been around 5 since the beginning, which will be generally sustained, although nuclear power has shown an approximately twice higher rate and is expected to top the list of alternative energies.
